My name is Andreas Hülber. I am a designer of beautiful things and a gallerist.
In 1989 I wanted to show my first furniture designs to friends and acquaintances — for the bare walls of the exhibition space, I chose works by painter friends of mine. That's how it began!
My affinity for the visual arts has its roots in my family's artistic and creative talent, where furniture manufacturing was carried on across several generations alongside literary and drawing talents. After training and working at Christie's London and at Galerie nächst St. Stephan in Vienna, I also had the first know-how to put together successful exhibitions in Vienna and internationally.
Through my long friendship with the Welsh painter and writer David Kilvington, this sideline became a second main pursuit. Since 1990 the two of us have been organising exhibitions on both sides of the English Channel, and we have great fun doing it. I assume this enjoyment carries over to our visitors, because the works by European artists we have chosen have brought us — and continue to bring us — great success!
What's it like at TAITH?
Things are lively with us — on the walls, of course, but also in our rooms. Vernissages and private views with the exhibiting artists, intimate private dinners with collectors, and talks on relevant topics take turns.
We have around 400 m² of gallery space at Ungargasse 57 in Vienna — a visit is always worthwhile.
What does TAITH mean?
The Welsh artist couple Amelia and David A. Kilvington chose the name of our gallery. The name TAITH derives from the Welsh word for "journey, path, development" — a name that fits our cross-border venture in more ways than one.

The History of TAITH
As a collaboration between Welsh artist David A. Kilvington and Austrian designer Andreas Hülber, exhibitions have been organised on both sides of the English Channel since 1989. The first exhibitions took place at the Tropeninstitut Dr. Stemberger, for which the two designed the interior and layout; later at the Vienna MuseumsQuartier, at Haus Wittgenstein, in the garden chapel of Palais Liechtenstein, at the Vienna Wasserturm, and in many gallery spaces in Vienna, as well as several galleries and private homes in Great Britain.
TAITH Contemporary was founded in 2013 as a pop-up gallery in Vienna and looks back on exhibitions at the Vienna MQ, at Haus Wittgenstein Vienna, at The Barn Suffolk, and at the Vienna design studio orange moon.
